The Date Dialogue package, PVDD.EXE, contains a Date Dialogue DLL Overlay, an associated Tester, and a Help File containing a description and a full reference. The Overlay provides two basic functions: A) To capture dates by means of a calendar which shows all information that could be relevant to the user making the selection. This is implemented in the form of a dialogue window that can be used to capture either a single date or a (from-to) range of dates. The advantages are that in all cases the user is prevented from choosing a date or range that your application cannot support. It also has the added advantage that any from-to dates returned will always be 'the right way round'. They cannot be the wrong way round because of the method used by the dialogue. This means that, provided your application has supplied the appropriate input parameters, you need no code to check the validity of any dates returned. The Date Dialogue can be parameterised to ensure that certain days of the week cannot have been selected. For example you can ensure that only a date corresponding to a weekday has been returned. The Date Dialogue can be 'seamlessly' interfaced to your application's Help File. B) To provide your application with Notable Dates - in the form of public holidays and certain useful seasonal dates for a wide range of years. Currently these functions only support information for the British Isles. The mechanism is implemented in such a way that a list of Notable Dates can be easily compiled at the start of the application, or as the year changes. Both the Tester and the DLL Overlay are Freeware. You may use them freely provided that you are always prepared, where necessary, to acknowledge their source. The Tester is available to demonstrate visibly to you, the program developer, how the DLL will perform within your application. Once you have satisfied yourself that you have assembled the necessary parameters to produce the effect you need, the Tester can be discarded. The Dynamic Link Library, PRODATES.DLL, must shipped with your application if you use it. It does not require any registrations, nor does it use any Registry (or other) resources. The associated Help File contains a complete reference for interfacing your application.
